Hu and Fukuda signs six-point joint statement on strategic relations

We firmly believe groups of people are better able to settle their differences when the relationship between them are good. China's and Japan's leadership working to improve ties between these two nations are wise and will further strengthen peace in the Asia region. Hu and Fukuda signed a six-point join statement to further the strategic relations between China and Japan. For further details, see "China, Japan sign joint statement on promoting strategic, mutually beneficial ties."

  1. Long-term peaceful and friendly cooperation

  2. Reaffirming past joint statements and political treaties

  3. Reconcile history

  4. Support peaceful developments within each others countries

  5. Japan recognizes the One China policy

  6. Increase regular contacts at all levels of Japanese and Chinese society

A great deal of distrust still exists between Chinese and Japanese over their WWII history. We feel that only when the two countries are friendly with each other will they fully reconcile their war past.
